Hello friends and family of the Berkeley Carroll School programs in Costa Rica, India, Tanzania, and the Eastern Shore,
Thank you so much for your trust and support of our programs. We are very excited about the group's upcoming departures and want you to know that we are here to answer any questions you have. You can either email us or call at (303) 679-3412 (toll-free 1-888-831-8109). Here are some final reminders and pieces of information:
Blog. We have set up a blog for the students, which we encourage you to check every few days. The blog plays a critical role in helping students disconnect and be present in their new surroundings. Young people today receive so few chances to disconnect from text messaging, Facebook, and email, so please encourage them to do just that! Students write journal entries and take pictures, which faculty and instructors will post to the blog every few days. The blog ensures that parents get lots of information about what the group is doing, and also takes the pressure off students to be emailing and calling home.
Final Itinerary. We're excited about the overall design of this program. Please note that the exact schedule may shift a bit as the departure date approaches, and even once the students are traveling.
Prepare to Go. Please encourage your son or daughter to re-read the Prepare to Go, which contains critical information about the trip. Thank you in advance for reviewing this information with your son or daughter. As a reminder, we ask that students:
Leave behind cell phones and any kind of electronic devices (except for a camera) in the spirit of an "unplugged" experience;
Dress Conservatively and not wear short shorts (board shorts or long basketball shorts only) tank tops and tight yoga pants;
Remember to wear long pants and closed-toed shoes when outside the hotel, which greatly reduces the incidence of insect and other bites, sunburn and cuts to the feet.
Emergency Contact. Parents who have an emergency message should first call 303-679-3412 (toll-free 1-888-831-8109) or 303-619-1835. These are both 24-hour numbers, and we will relay the message onto the group immediately. Routine messages can also be called into the same number during the day, or send an email to World Leadership School. In the case of an emergency, we will contact the emergency contact listed on the student’s application form.
We are very excited for these programs and proud of all the work that the students have done as they prepare for their journey. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with questions.
